I will try and explain this the best I can, here on Facebook. We contacted the payroll office at the end of May and were of the understanding that we had a list of members with a “Y” and a list people with a “N” by their name. “N” meant that you didn’t have a Union card on file. So we did our best to get union cards signed by those members. We were told that dues deduction we keep going as usual. Fast forward to today as members started looking at their checks and we have members that are not having dues taken out of their checks. And not the members with the “N” by their names in payroll, but rather the members with a “Y” by their name that do not have a new card in. The payroll office is now stating in light of the Janus ruling the past “Y” members will be required to sign a new card. Please know that we as your union leadership did what we thought was appropriate and did our due diligence in preparing for the Janus ruling. We were of the understanding from the Comptrollers office that we were good to go and continue as we were of for due deduction. We find that not to be the case any more. We have our attorney working with the city attorney to get to the bottom of how this actually happened. We have been contacted Martin Matson the city Comptroller for clarification. The card we need members to sign is the same card that was being signed by members these past two weeks. We will post a picture of it here soon. As a reminder, please do not engage in union activity while on duty. Also, please do not shame or bully anyone into signing a union card. It is each and every members right to not be a part of the Association of Local 215 if they so chose. The best way to get this done is if we could have everyone come into the union hall and sign a card. If you are out of town and can’t make it in right now, then please come in as soon as you can. So just to recap, if you weren’t one of the 240 members that just signed a card in these past two weeks, the city Comptroller office is now requiring that we all sign the card.
